Contemporary Dance Classes

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Combining the meditative tone of yoga with an intricate, kinetically diverse movement vocabulary, this class researches the impact of external and internal forces on the body in order to yield authentic methods of moving in the moment. The intention is to capture artistic nuances and genuine methods of communication in the context of streamlined pathways and percussive variances.

Dynamic conditioning techniques, fused with guided improvisation, provide the dancers with the dexterity and endurance necessary to execute phrasework with an advanced level of rigor and individualism. Phrases emphasize a combination of musicality, rhythm, sequencing, and flow.

Visceral imagery, texture, constraints and allowances, and energetic cues provide the dancers with a range of expression that champions and nurtures their fullest capacities.

Rosie has been teaching contemporary dance in NYC since 2013.

MISSION:

My teachings are inspired by Vipassana meditation, alongside the artistic expression and intuitive nature of my improvisation practices. A steady, grounding pace provides the framework for a moving meditation and the embodiment of a flow state: the intersection of discipline and surrender.

My mission is to demonstrate that the communal, innate wisdom in our bodies is superior to the wisdom of our minds. My creative process hones a trust in the physical body, using movement as a bridge to access a broader scope of creativity and intelligence in the mind. Through diverse movement, breathwork, and other meditative practices, I strive to establish a deeper integration between the physical and the mental.

As a choreographer, I design abstract, somatic narratives that are inspired by my experiences. I encourage my audiences to examine their own stories and alchemize those reflections into their own research. My work is inspired by the psychological break of mathematical genius John F. Nash Jr. and the movement language of Ohad Naharin, honoring and physicalizing the validity of the voices inside our heads. My practices as a Vipassana meditator are integral to my creative process.

My intention is to break artistic codes and formulate new methods of physical expression. My goal is not to define the experience for those involved, but to provide enough space that having a meaningful experience is non-negotiable.
